WHEN LILY MET THE GENIE-PART 2

Jun 9 2008  | Views 182 |  Comments  (2)
I've been all those wonderful women-and I'm back......glad to be me-oh yes, snobby, arrogant, ghastly, proud me.I find Mr.Genie snuggled on my favourite armchair-in my opinion the most comfy and cushiony armchair in the World.

"Get up-I need to sit,Mr.Genie"I demand.

He obliges-still over-awed by me.I curl onto my favourite chair and say"Ok-wish number two-I want to go back in time- to 8 different ages and eras- as I wish.ok?''I snarl.

I'm loving to dictate terms to this genie-call me sadist, or whatever you please...I dont care.

"Of course"the Genie surrenders meekly.

Here are my list of the ages and eras that i want to visit:

1.THE VICTORIAN ERA-1837 to 1901:

Call me obsessed about the Victorian age-I'd be proud!Seriously! It's my hobby-to know about that wonderful age.And I'd now get to visit it:
Elegant and luxurious villas, beautiful jewellery and amazing dresses, with Gentlemen bowing and asking "How are you today Miss.Lily?" in an amazing Jude-Law-ish British accent.I'd be DEAD MEAT!!And of course -the Victorian Era was the age of  Jane Austen,Charles Dickens and The Bronte Sisters.I'd meet Jane Austen and ask her tips on how to create characters that leave an everlasting impact on readers.

Lilyrose to Jane Austen:

''Oh Ms.Austen-what wonderful books these are!" (In a long British drawl)
"Perhaps you must consider another book-one with another spirited, wonderful and strong heroine.I personally think Lily would be a marvellous name for such a heroine."(With an elegant smile and slight fluttering of the eyelashes)
"Oh- Ms.Austen-I nearly forgot to ask(WHAT!! Forgot ..ha ha....no...just playing the right card at the right time). Is there a real Mr.Darcy?-I mean, you could have been inspired to write such a wonderful character-If so...I would love to have his acquaintance!"(Yeah...right...!)

2.THE RENAISSANCE ERA:

No-not the Renaissance Battles or wars-but the art and the architecture. The Renaissance was the period where art was considered as important as the air we breathe.Leonardo da Vinci , arguably the greatest ever 'Genius' this World has known-belonged to that wonderful era.And as a journalist , these are the questions , yours truly would probably put to Da Vinci.

Lilyrose to Leonardo da Vinci:

"Mr.Da Vinci, would you please tell me what you wanted to convey through your paintings "The Last Supper" and "The Monalisa"??"(in a business-like tone)
"Because...you know Mr.Da Vinci, people are minting money out of just speculating about your paintings..."*cough*Dan Brown*cough*
"And Mr.Da Vinci, (Hey could I call you Leonardo or Leo?...because saying this Mr.Da Vin"chi" thing every single time is getting irritating!)-were you the head of the Prieuré de Sion, any time??(Did you know!?? The emblem of the Priory of Sion is embossed with a fleur-de-lis(The Flower Lily)

3. THE END OF THE BRITISH RULE IN INDIA-August 15,1947:

I am an extremely patriotic person. And I'd so LOVE to have witnessed the First Independence day-standing amidst the crowd, watching the Union Jack being lowered and the tricolour being raised with tears brimming in my eyes and patriotism burning as fire in the heart.(Having read "Freedom at Midnight" by Dominique Lapierre  and Larry Collins,it would be even more amazing!)
I'd listen to Nehru's famous "Tryst With Destiny" speech:

"Long years ago we made a tryst with destiny, and now the time comes when we shall redeem our pledge, not wholly or in full measure, but very substantially. At the stroke of the midnight hour, when the world sleeps, India will awake to life and freedom. A moment comes, which comes but rarely in history, when we step out from the old to the new, when an age ends, and when the soul of a nation, long suppressed, finds utterance. It is fitting that at this solemn moment we take the pledge of dedication to the service of India and her people and to the still larger cause of humanity........"

That would be the best thing ever to happen to me!!!

4.THE MUGHAL ERA:

No...it's NOT the Jodhaa Akbar effect..I've been a history-addict ever since I got to know the subject.Exquisite architecture,Elegant art,Delicious Cuisine,Beautiful jewellery and dresses-you name it, and the Mughal Era had it.
From Babur to Humayun to Bahadur Shah Zafar-the Mughals boast of a kaleidoscope of Emperors.I'd probably ask William Dalrymple(The author of "The Last Mughal" which chronicles the life of Bahadur Shah Zafar),to accompany me, as a sort of tour guide or to phrase it better History Instructor. That would just be amazing...strolling in the Mughal Gardens, with Dalrymple explaining more about the Mughals...*dreamy sigh*

5.THE FRENCH REVOLUTION-THE REIGN OF QUEEN MARIE ANTOINETTE:

No-not to see the guillotine chop heads. But, to see Marie Antoinette-(oh yes, the same lady who said "Why cant they have cakes instead?", when told about the situation of French peasents who didnt have even bread to eat), in all her grandeur. If she was anything like what Kirsten Dunst portrayed in the 2006 film-I'd love to meet her snobby Highness!!
Lily'd ask for an interview of course-but then Marie, true to her snobby character and silly attitude-would reject it.Like Lily cares!

6.THE AGE OF HELEN OF TROY:

No-not because of the movie Troy where we saw a beautiful Helen(played by Diane Kruger) charm Paris(Orlando Bloom, of course),or because of her wealth and power.

But just, to see "the face that launched a thousand ships", as described by Christopher Marlowe.Of course, she'd be no match for Lily, and her keen mind.

7.FROM EARTH TO THE MOON-July 20,1969:

Name of Mission:Apollo 11
Aim:To reach the Moon and collect samples.
Crew:Neil Armstrong.
         Edwin "Buzz' Aldrin.
         Michael Collins....AND...
         LILYROSE!!!
Lilyrose to Neil Armstrong:

"Oh..hey Neil...you can take the first step..I'm okay with it!!Really..it's ok...go on"(In a sympathetic tone)
"And hey...also..you have a better quote prepared..what's that again...??..ah.." That's one small step for man, one  giant leap for mankind"..that's good..go on..and hey..Buzz you can go too.."(in a happy and comforting tone)
"I'll stay with Michael here and cover the entire thing...good journalist that I am(satisfied smile)....and oh...do me a favour Neil..and after you plant the flags...carve ''Lily" on the moon, will you?..or you could even draw the flower lily if you can.."(glorious smile)

8.THE AGE OF GOTTFRIED WILHELM LEIBNIZ AND ISAAC NEWTON:

Heard these names anywhere??You bet...You ought to understand the selfless nature of the modest Lily-who's now taken up the cause of thousands.Thousands...who werent what you'd call brilliant at Math.Thousands..who were tortured by these two men!!!Why?What did these men do?????They were the ones who were primarily responsible for inflicting pain on thousands...they invented....I cant bring myself to even  SAY that word...CALCULUS!!!!!!!! *ARGHH!!!!!!*

Right, your wonderful and modest...*hmm..hmm*...Lily is off to enjoy her wishes now...Ciao!
