I guess dreams are one of those things that you have in common with everyone.
You aspire and dream...so does everyone.
You dream about all that you desire or crave for ...and so does everyone.
You dream about things that you feel are far from your reach....and so does everyone.
Don't think this is the beginning of one of those research-oriented blogs about "Exploring Dreams and Realising the Human Psyche" or one of those motivation blogs like "You can dream and you can achieve".
Instead...this blog is just about a little wonderful dream of mine-some might find it far-fetched or petty-but that's not something I can help...
I dream of starting my own Book Land-yes, not a book shop...because when you say "shop"-the motive becomes earning money, which is certainly not my idea-earning a respect and love among book-lovers and helping them form a community of sorts(not just these orkut-"I love books" kinda communities)-that would be more like my motive.
It would be a whole place filled with books, decorated with my favourite quotes.A place-not very large, but full of inspiration and an aura of knowledge and happiness. My own, original ,beautiful little Book Land.
I've visited all the so-called wonderful book-stores, but I've never, ever been contented with them.
If the ambience is right , the staff working there are entirely wrong.I'd like to share an experience of mine, that totally made me dislike that particular book store and I still hate it with a vengeance. You might not, but then again...it's me...a person who LOVES books.I'd gone to this famous bookstore and I asked this staff person, who had a very knowledgeable air about him, to get me a copy of "Pride and Prejudice".He spoke on his phone and then asked me to repeat the title.
I was already irritated...what responsible staff person is on the phone when he needs to attend to his customers?
Then he goes somewhere and returns with a piece of paper..and asks me "What's the name again? Is it fiction?"
The greatest classic ever (arguably) and he doesnt have a clue about it.
He further makes me write the name on his paper and reads it out once more..goes to the desk and comes back saying.."Sorry..no copies left"...which is when my friend got me the book(oh yes the same book "which had no copies left").I was in no mood to stay in the place and I stormed out...a lot of my friends felt i was making a fuss...but I SIMPLY CANT HELP IT!!
Which is when I said "Hey..I can keep a better place.." and since then I've always wanted to have a what i call -"book boutique"-yes a personalised, beautiful, quaint bookstore which every book lover would find as a paradise.
And then there are the several other bookstores who are "sophisticated","contemporary".Well..perhaps...but I've always felt that they missed something...something that makes one feel happy and 'at-home'....and unique.
I absolutely would have a small place with what i like most-"old world charm".Where..I'd even recommend books for people if they want..where I'd have a book club...where I'd have people who visit the place write book reviews and share them(never mind if it means I lose out on sales,if some of the books are reviewed as "bad").That would give me a lot of satisfaction.
It wont be a "Barnes and Nobles"...it wont be a "Landmark"..it certainly wont be "Oxford"...it'd be simple..it would be the haven for book-lovers.
Mark my words indeed because I plan to have this done..sometime in the near future..and all you book-lovers are welcome...
Because...after all...you dream..to make dreams come true...and every good and wonderful thing in the World...that has manifested and blossomed to wondrous proportions today...started out as nothing..but a beautiful longing...a wonderful dream...
